Power outages

Not being always wise, I assume that shops with posted hours will be open. Now, with cell phones, just because you get an answer at a location doesn’t mean that it is open. Which I found out this morning after a quick trip to Solano Avenue. There was a power outage which apparently affected only the north side of the street. This particular area also involves the Albany/Berkeley border. Which may or may not have anything to do with PG&E (the not so wonderful Pacific Gas & Electric Co). The upshot of this long saga is that Squabish isn’t going to have bretzels available at their normal time considering they have no lights/power. And my favorite copy shop can’t exactly run their machines, now can they?

The bretzels are obvious. I have several family members who love them. The copy place? I have a few more Nora Corbett Mermaid patterns. I have a normal size printer/scanner. Witchelt has changed formats and now prints the pattern on the inside of  a 17×11 (imperial) sheet of cardstock, then folds them in half. This means that the pattern is too large to reproduce on my machine. Scanning it means multiple uploads and sizing in Pattern Keeper.

Yes, this is obviously a first world problem but I really hate wasting time fiddling for hours on something I can solve with a trip to the copy shop.  Over the last couple of years, I have become acquainted with the guy who runs it. So 0900 rolled around, he let me in, and I filled out a slip with instructions and left him the patterns. The power company is saying 1030. I am waiting till 1300 to be on the safe side.

By then there might even be Brettzels.

About Holly

fiber person - knitter, spinner, weaver who spent 33 years being a military officer to fund the above. And home. And family. Sewing and quilting projects are also in the stash. After living again in Heidelberg after retiring (finally) from the U.S. Army May 2011, we moved to the US ~ Dec 2015. Something about being over 65 and access to health care. It also might have had to do with finding a buyer for our house. Allegedly this will provide me a home base in the same country as our four adult children, all of whom I adore, so that I can drive them totally insane. Considerations of time to knit down the stash…(right, and if you believe that…) and spin and .... There is now actually enough time to do a bit of consulting, editing. Even more amazing - we have only one household again. As long as everyone understands that I still, 40 years into our marriage, don't do kitchens or bathrooms. For that matter, not being a golden retriever, I don't do slippers or newspapers either. I don’t miss either the military or full-time clinical practice. Limiting my public health/travel med/consulting and lecturing to “when I feel like it” has let me happily spend my pension cruising, stash enhancing (oops), arguing with the DH about where we are going to travel next and book buying. Life is good!
