All of this occurred before midnight – so that is where it is being filed.
For my entertainment – I am participating in a three day cross-stitch retreat. Acorns & Threads started offering the retreats on Zoom during the pandemic. They have maintained the zoom since being able to return to in person retreats.
Lets see – talk with friends on zoom, have a good time, skip the 11 hours drive (or plane fare) the hotel bill, the food bill, etc. Or sit in the comfort of my own living room where I can deal with the cat? Ok, the cat is a separate issue.
So I am on Zoom.
Tonight was the first (I think ever) Cal-Minnesota College Football Game. I don’t like football. Yes, it takes some skill but too much is controlled by the coach and less by the players on the field. Plus the injury issue to college age kids. I wasn’t particularly interested in going. I never went to a football game during my time at Minn, why would I care now, except to irritate those around me for cheering for someone other than their precious Bears.
George went, took a friend of Miriam’s. The guys apparently had a good time. The game started at 1900. Really stupid IMHO when one team’s fans are two hours ahead of us in time zones. I kept checking the time and score. The game FINALLY ended shortly after 2300.
Miriam reports there is a problem, George has left his phone charging next to the TV. Ry’s phone is in his car (parked in our driveway). We waited. And waited. Apparently they finally figured out their lack of phones and walked down to one of the hotels. No cabs. Called from the front desk. I picked them up. It is now right before midnight. It is at least 2 hours past my bedtime.
But the most irritating thing? They gave out a calendar and labeled it as “Cal Athletics”. It isn’t. It is only the football schedule. Hello? Cal has Olympic Athletes in multiple sports. Football isn’t one of them.
