Maligne

There were those intrepid trappers and explores in the 1800s who were trying to discover the territory, the extent and a particular lake. They decided the whole area was simply bad luck – from whence the name.

Our first stop this morning was Maligne Gorge which apparently is more fun in the winter when you can hike one end to the other followed by a climb up the ice fall.

From there it was on to Medicine Lake –

then it was back in the van for the drive to Maligne Lake and a cruise out to Spirit Island (made famous by being one of Kodak sponsored landscapes in Central Station all those decades ago).

By the time we arrived back at the hotel, George had to re-engage on some conference calls. Not wanting to stay and be irritated (or irritating…) I decided to use my free voucher for the Jasper Tramway (think gondola up the mountain).

So there I was headed to what I thought was the top

only to find that there was another couple hundred meters up that I could hike.

The view from the top was pretty amazing

I headed down to find that I was going to have to wait an hour for the next bus to town. Since it only was 7km and downhill at that, I hiked it.
