Long day’s journey

which will be ending as soon as I send this note. Thanks to the “friendly” cat I was up at 0400. Getting my act together, I was sitting in the car outside my favorite coffee shop shortly after 0500. One of the baristas spotted me and called out that he would be able to make expresso as soon as they opened. Which happened promptly at 0530.

The drive into San Francisco frankly sucked once I made the approach to the Bay Bridge. It took over 20 minutes from there to make the toll booth and just as slow afterwards. Turned out to be a combination of metering lights and looky-loos at the police (three cars & two motorcycles) on the right side. After that, it was relatively easy to the 101 North exit, the cut across part of the city before getting to the 42nd street crossing of Golden Gate Park. Early in the morning, I can always find parking in the closer ramp.

I didn’t get finished till 1430, at which point I was disappointed to find that the Wednesday Farmer’s Market on the grass verge was shut down. Since it looked equally sucky, I went north over the Golden Gate when I hit even worse traffic than the section of 101 through SF. Go figure. Made it to the Richmond bridge and home.

It was after 1600 when I staggered, tired up the steps to the house. The boys were back – the young man I showed you yesterday plus a much larger, more muscular ?8pt? dude.

The cat is back in my lap which isn’t going to last for long. I am going to feed him supper and head for bed….

About Holly

fiber person - knitter, spinner, weaver who spent 33 years being a military officer to fund the above. And home. And family. Sewing and quilting projects are also in the stash. After living again in Heidelberg after retiring (finally) from the U.S. Army May 2011, we moved to the US ~ Dec 2015. Something about being over 65 and access to health care. It also might have had to do with finding a buyer for our house. Allegedly this will provide me a home base in the same country as our four adult children, all of whom I adore, so that I can drive them totally insane. Considerations of time to knit down the stash…(right, and if you believe that…) and spin and .... There is now actually enough time to do a bit of consulting, editing. Even more amazing - we have only one household again. As long as everyone understands that I still, 40 years into our marriage, don't do kitchens or bathrooms. For that matter, not being a golden retriever, I don't do slippers or newspapers either. I don’t miss either the military or full-time clinical practice. Limiting my public health/travel med/consulting and lecturing to “when I feel like it” has let me happily spend my pension cruising, stash enhancing (oops), arguing with the DH about where we are going to travel next and book buying. Life is good!
