Headgear

I am sure that you will all be relieved to know that we are now past 15 Nov and have official permission to wear the fleece cap as head gear. Thus, all those ears and cold noggins are protected much more than by the ordinary patrol cap.

Why the 15th you might ask?

Well, that is the date at which the fleece cap is allowed at Ft Campbell. Since the senior tachtical commander here is teh 101st Commander, Ft Campbell rules apply. Of course, you also have to understand that this is nothing to do with the outside temperature. Rather, it is easier to enforce by appearance and date.

Something like white shoes considered tacky before Memorial Day.

The fleece hats are just a standard green pull on. No name, no rank and no pom-pom. Simple, easy, comfortable and warm on the ears. Some of us look like dorks, but who is complaining.

That takes care of the morning. You also must have your regular patrol cap in your pocket for it would be really, really bad to wind up with fleece on your head in the middle of the afternoon with the temperature close to 20C.

I am thinking it is probably easier all the way around to just bike back and forth. Helmets are easy. They have no rank, you can wear just about any color you want.

oh, and should I tell about the proper wear of the reflective belt?

Rather than keep you in suspense, I will elucidate: all the time in PT clothing, when dark in ACUs. Worn at an angle from R shoulder to left side. Why? This is how they do it at Ft Lewis……

You crack me up! But really, the “this is when they do it at Ft. X” really sounds like a ridiculous explanation.

yay for knitting – it keeps us all sane in stressful times.

Re warm hats – aren’t you glad your Command isn’t from Hawaii?

Sounds very Jewish — we have the second day of yontef because they couldn’t be sure of the date of the start of yontef and would send signal fires across the land….

Chassidim dress in 18th century Polish nobility garb…..

you are not drinking the Cool Aid. The culture of Arms is built on conformity in action, thought and attire. Freedom of expression is not tolerated.

The rules about wearing your fleece hat is rather like the rule in NYC that mandates that apt bldgs turn on their heat on 15 Oct and turn it off on 15 April (I think…I can’t quite remember the off date). Well run apt bldgs, like the one I lived in wld, of course turn it on if it was colder prior to or subsequent to these dates, thankfully.
