Grand Cayman – Georgetown

There are five ships in port today: besides us there is an Aida ship, Disney Magic, Carnival Victory and Celebrity Constellation.   As you might figure, that makes for as many or more people getting off the ships by tender than there are people living in Georgetown.

The Bugerking is just far enough down the street to only have a couple dozen people who know about their free network. As a result, the bandwidth, while not great enough to pull huge files from servers is more than enough to accomplish some updates and email.

The girls seem to be having a good time. I took them out for a birthday dinner the first night. Yesterday, a sea day we hit the ice show and the evening production show.

Walking around town – there seems to be a combination of tourist places (many with the same cruise line/jewelry shop logos that you see port after port through out the Caribbean all of which are shiny) local haunts not well kept up and sporting various signs in the windows practically begging for custom and financial institutions.

Today, being a Tues – I would have expected those financial locations – banks and investment groups – to be buzzing with activities. Instead, the parking lots are mostly empty and there are rental signs discretely displayed in many of the windows. I am wondering if increased banking regulations or more competition from other global locations have affected their business.

In any case, I am off to hike around and again and will be back in touch tomorrow from Jamaica

Knitting

and yes, the knitting continues – the girls are delighted with all the hats – between them and boyfriends, all are going to find good homes. Same with both ZuZu’s petals – well received. Now if I can just send whip off a couple more Hitchhikers before Sat, they will be totally and completely thrilled…..
