College Guy and I stopped here in 2010 when we sailed the Nordic Fjords with P&O. So I had a chance to climb the fire watch tower.
Visit the North Sea Oil Museum
With just as interesting take on modern sculpture as I have seen in other locations.
Still, after I did the usual postcard buy, write and send I decided to explore the older section of Stavanger. Built in the 1820-1870 with a section added after the turn of that century and achieving preservation status in the 1970s. There were homes, shops, warehouses right next to the harbor.
With white wooden buildings and tiny gridded cobblestone streets.
Fishing and canning of those fish was one of the major industries
With an extensive variety of brands and labels.
Even with the oil industry I don’t think the town really strays far from its fishing origins
