Coming back from Buenos Aires to Heidelberg is like being dipped in dark ink, taking me back to black days in Muenchen. Or, to paraphrase Douglas Adams – a long, dark, tea-time of the soul.
You see, it was summer in Argentina. Long, long days of glorious sun, becoming more so each day from the Canary Islands as we steamed our way south.
In Mid-Nov, it is quite dark in the mornings and soon again in the late afternoon. Germany is significantly farther north than CONUS, matching many places in Canada. The days are short and getting shorter. Not so short as those experienced by Lena in Finland or Join Ireland. But dark enough.
I went from sunrise at 0445 in the morning
in the warm and sunny part of the year
to cold and dark. No snow, but temperatures hovering around freezing and fast dark at both ends of the day.
Coming back has been a shock to my system, much more than the few hours of time zone difference.
My house and life are completely a mess, made even more challenging by the upcoming move. Leaving on Wednesday for a few days in the UK ought to prove even more challenging as it will encompass the winter solstice.
Need to go find some bright lights…..
Knitting
I still have not tracked down any more of the grey colour change Kauni so I will have to order one small ball to finish my cardigan. Substituting Rauma worked for weight, but not with the colour I had on hand.
I guess I was not clear when I laid out the pieces for the Mein Weg in that last picture. I thought it would look even more confusing if I left both sleeves out like this –
rather than having folded them over.
I haven’t been doing much knitting in the last couple of days, jut looking at the house and groaning. Taking out the sewing machine might make me feel better
Books & Audio Books
Just finished Michael Connelly’s Angels Flight in audio.
On to his next book.
In paperback, two re-issues (and rewritten) of Kay Hooper’s.
-Holly
Thanks Holly! I just couldn’t “see” it!
Ah yes, we’ve lived in Lake Woebegone too, and when we’d listen to the show, we’d say, “That’s…!” And laugh, because you are right, it is a different way of being.
