Day 3 – Poll Worker

Today’s biggest challenges stemmed from disappointing people. We have posted hours. We don’t choose the hours, the hours are regulated.

No, we can’t accept your ballot outside of those times. We are closed before opening and after closing. There are regulations and no one delegated the authority to make changes down to our lowly level.

In fact, if we did something like that, chances are really good it would be someone testing the system then turning around and starting a lawsuit….

Anyway, we saw some great (non-political) t-shirts, saw a bunch of kids come through with parents, registered a lot of students to their campus address so that they could vote and met perhaps a dozen lovely pups.

George picked me up tonight so no issues with getting home….except – the first regular season Women’s Basketball game was tonight. Starting NOW (1800).  Supper was fast food from the concession stand and we headed home immediately afterwards (yes, the Bears won.)

I managed 25 stitches into the current cross stitch project so as to manage to stitch every day.

Tomorrow we open at 0700 and close at 2000. I have to be in an hour before and will be there probably more than an hour after since everything has to be torn down and the school’s room which we are using is completely restored to order.

So glad Peet’s opens at 0530 so at least I can get a high test Latte on my way to work.

About Holly

fiber person - knitter, spinner, weaver who spent 33 years being a military officer to fund the above. And home. And family. Sewing and quilting projects are also in the stash. After living again in Heidelberg after retiring (finally) from the U.S. Army May 2011, we moved to the US ~ Dec 2015. Something about being over 65 and access to health care. It also might have had to do with finding a buyer for our house. Allegedly this will provide me a home base in the same country as our four adult children, all of whom I adore, so that I can drive them totally insane. Considerations of time to knit down the stash…(right, and if you believe that…) and spin and .... There is now actually enough time to do a bit of consulting, editing. Even more amazing - we have only one household again. As long as everyone understands that I still, 40 years into our marriage, don't do kitchens or bathrooms. For that matter, not being a golden retriever, I don't do slippers or newspapers either. I don’t miss either the military or full-time clinical practice. Limiting my public health/travel med/consulting and lecturing to “when I feel like it” has let me happily spend my pension cruising, stash enhancing (oops), arguing with the DH about where we are going to travel next and book buying. Life is good!

Well, I will be thinking of you. I hope they are providing you with caffeine and carbohydrates!

  2. Holly says:

No, they don’t feed us at all. And there is some pay, well below the minimum… but there are local places to grab food/coffee… as well as sack lunch from home (if awake enough to do that…)
