and the schedule resumes

This morning I felt almost normal. Woke at a reasonable time,  managed to do a bit of stitching. Ran errands which included coffee and Costco, making it back home before noon.

Three loads of laundry over the day. Attending UCSF Medicine Grand Rounds by Zoom. A few more computer games and a trip through the garage. The last netted me a jacket that I wanted to pass along and some books – same.

But that wasn’t the “fun part.” I knew that I had brought my Samsung tablet back from Cannon Beach. I know that I slid it into its’ sleeve and placed it in the computer backpack. I remember emptying that very same backpack yesterday. Which means that tablet, whose sole function in existence is to provide access to Pattern Keeper has to be somewhere in the house.

Three hours later, I still didn’t have a clue. This is serious – all my progress on projects is on that device. Not quite the same brain function as my phone or laptop, but dedicated to just the one program.  I started looking on Amazon for how much I would be out if I needed a replacement tablet. Might actually be less than what I had spent last year, since I have no need for the latest and greatest.

One last run through the room – no dice. Ok – it might be replacement time. So I spend 15 minutes sorting through options: size, RAM, memory. Before I order, I decide to finish clearing my desk, then the pile of project bags under the window. While I am at it, I decide to put the project bags from this weekend in the bin. I pull them from the pile on the right, just under the desk overhang. And there sits the black case containing the tablet.

Ok, I think I need either some fresh air or a nap….

About Holly

fiber person - knitter, spinner, weaver who spent 33 years being a military officer to fund the above. And home. And family. Sewing and quilting projects are also in the stash. After living again in Heidelberg after retiring (finally) from the U.S. Army May 2011, we moved to the US ~ Dec 2015. Something about being over 65 and access to health care. It also might have had to do with finding a buyer for our house. Allegedly this will provide me a home base in the same country as our four adult children, all of whom I adore, so that I can drive them totally insane. Considerations of time to knit down the stash…(right, and if you believe that…) and spin and .... There is now actually enough time to do a bit of consulting, editing. Even more amazing - we have only one household again. As long as everyone understands that I still, 40 years into our marriage, don't do kitchens or bathrooms. For that matter, not being a golden retriever, I don't do slippers or newspapers either. I don’t miss either the military or full-time clinical practice. Limiting my public health/travel med/consulting and lecturing to “when I feel like it” has let me happily spend my pension cruising, stash enhancing (oops), arguing with the DH about where we are going to travel next and book buying. Life is good!
