Alabardos
Ok, so color me sceptical when it comes to eating guides. Admittedly it was only once I was deceived but it was spectacular. There was this incredible (allegedly) restaurant in Barcelona that was supposed to be the best in the world. I think we still have an apron from them (B something ). The event was an investment bank conference and the year was the same as when FC Barcelona won the championship. The people at the meeting were interesting but the food was inedible.
Now picture us up on the hill over looking the river in Budapest. We are actually in the museum portion of Pest. It is lunch time, and the place (complete with all sorts of Michelin Guide Recommendations in the window) is called Alabardos.
Old fashion dishes, fabulous service and cuisine out of this world. It didn’t matter that it was so foggy out that you could barely see the river or that the sidewalks were littered with tourists.
We had soups, mains, and deserts. I will just leave you to drool over pictures.
Museums and the hike back were anticlimactic.
My favorite restaurant in Budapest. We celebrated several of my birthdays there with all the family back in the 70s and 80s. It’s been there forever. Don’t know if they had musicians at lunch, but they do at dinner. Glad you liked it.
The Christmas markets in Budapest are a very old tradition and wonderful. Spectacular food and drink. Did you miss those?
