Today is a tender port.
The main attraction is the Great Barrier Reef (reefs actually) which lay claim to the fame of being the only truly life form distinguishable from space (living coral and all of that). There was an excellent lecture yesterday on ship (yes, really) about the reef, it’s history in navigation and the current jobs of all the sea pilots. (the second lecturer was more typical of Royal – he kept assuming that everyone was already familiar with all the history and didn’t bother with dates. For the non-Aussies in the audience this went past annoying to intolerable and I went to lunch).
Back to today. Took the first tender out and proceeded to hike the short distance to town. Going out to the reef for snorkling-diving would be would be two hours out, the same back with less than 3 hours water time. For that? No, not worth it. Instead I would seriously like to spend a week here in the future and have enough time to accomplish some serious exploring.
Now to go find postcards!
