Unlike what our guide assured us yesterday – there are most assuredly sirens at noon today. It is 2 June and the sirens – sounding out from multiple locations in the city and lasting for two minutes – are in commemoration of the Day of Botev (a poet and revolutionary who died in 1876). Then there was the uniformed military band. Easy to recognize the sound along with obvious barked commands. From what I could tell, it started from the military museum located close to the hotel, Marching out at 5 minutes after and returning 15-20 minutes later.

I spent the day quietly. Reading, stitching and not attending either the lecture nor doing the walking tour which mostly seemed to be oriented toward churches, churches and more churches.  The guys hiked out and around for a while – and collected the following photo which was too good not to share. There is a soccer team in town from Edinburgh for tournament play. Why else would you have kilts with soccer jerseys in downtown Sofia Bulgaria?

Tomorrow we fly to Frankfurt then drive to Miltenberg before heading back on Monday.
